Job Summary
Accountable for implementation and administration of broad-based compensation programs, policies and procedures for the organization that drive a pay for performance culture. Ensures that compensation programs are aligned with business objectives, meet legal requirements, and achieve a balance between being externally and internally competitive, while managing internal budget requirements. Provides compensation support to assigned business unit leaders. Active participant in educating the company about compensation principles and making sound pay decisions.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and evolve organization’s pay structure by monitoring the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommending changes that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends and business objectives

  • Design creative and efficient solutions to deliver compensation-related programs, policies, and procedures

  • Deliver annual incentive, performance adjustment, and long-term incentive programs effectively and efficiently

  • Drive determination of salary survey participation that will support organizational needs; participate in salary surveys; monitor and adjust usage of salary survey data to ensure compensation objectives are achieved

  • Provide counsel to all levels of leaders, HR business partners, and employee relations to support equitable development, promotion and retention strategies for existing employees. Partner with leaders and HR on complex compensation analysis and recommendations.

  • Interact with accounting and legal departments to ensure operational and design compliance with FLSA, IRS, and other critical rules and regulations

  • Support preparation of all legally required filings such as the Proxy. As NiSource is a public utility, this role will also prepare and/or provide expert testimony in support of regulatory/rate filings for Rate Cases. Prepare testimony, prepare for hearings, and represent the company on behalf of our compensation and benefit programs.


Required Qualifications for Position

  • Bachelor's Degree In business, HR, or equivalent

  • At least 8-10 years of experience in compensation, showing progressive growth in role and responsibilities

  • Experience designing, selecting and integrating wide-scale compensation programs

  • Experience consulting with business leaders and all levels of leadership about compensation matters

  • Communication skills: must be able to effectively talk and write about a company's pay strategy and system and successfully support positive leadership and employee communications

  • Analytical skills:  must be able to collect, weigh, and analyze data on many factors to determine the best compensation approach for the situation; must have solid analytic and statistical skills

  • Time management: must possess excellent time management skills including ability to plan and navigate high priorities

  • Project management: demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact, influence, and educate all levels of leadership

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including Excel

  • Proficiency in Workday


 Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Experience in a regulated utility environment

  • Experience developing and administering equity-based long-term incentive plans

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) World at Work Certified Compensation Professional Upon Hire

  • SHRM-CP SHRM Certified Professional Upon Hire

Salary Range:

$125,800.00 - $188,600.00
